NC Girls win in OT, SC Boys hold on

The North Carolina All-Stars stormed back in the second half and then blanked the South Carolina All-Stars in overtime in route to a 76-67 victory in the 2013 Carolinas Women's All-Star Challenge. The NC squad trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half, but tied the game at 67-67 at the end of regulation before scoring all nine points in the extra session.

North Carolina was led by MVP J'Kyra Brown's 19 points, 16 of which were scored after the opening half. Ashley Williams and Amanda Coffer added 11 points and 10 points respective for the Tar Heel state, while Teri Rogers grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

Naomi Moore, South Carolina's team MVP, connected on a record six 3-point baskets to lead the Palmetto State with 23 points. Alaina Coates posted a double-double with 12 opints and 10 rebounds.


North Carolina posted possibly the greatest comeback in Carolinas All-Star Classic history only to fall short as South Carolina held on for a 99-90 victory. NC trailed by as many as 23 points in the second half before storming back to take the lead. Trailing 71-48 with 13:17 remaining in the second half, North Carolina scored an amazing 25 unanswered points over the next 5:19 to take a 73-71 lead. South Carolina responded with a 16-4 spurt to regain a double-digit lead and coast to the win.

Jaylen Shaw put on a show for the crowd in earning South Carolina's MVP honor after posting 23 points, seven assists and three steals. Shaw, a 6-0 point guard from Hartsville, put on an aerial display with several rim rocking dunks that had the crowd buzzing. When the South Carolina squad was running out to the big lead early in the second half, it was Orangeburg-Winkinson's Tashombe Riley's scoring spurt that led the way. Riley scored 13 of his game-high 26 points during a four minute span in the second half.

For North Carolina, Tarique Thompson and Isaiah Hicks led the team with 15 points each. Tyrone Outlaw posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Darren Black tied the Carolinas All-Star Classic record with eight assists.
